Official synopsis: As Vicki’s behavior becomes more dangerous, Stefan tries to help her. Elena tries to convince Jeremy to stay away from Vicki. Caroline gives Bonnie a necklace she took from Damon to wear with her Halloween costume, and when Damon tries to take it back, he is surprised by Bonnie’s abilities. Bonnie discusses the incident with Grams and learns more about her family’s past. Trying to cheer Vicki up, Matt takes her to the high school’s haunted house, but the evening soon takes a terrifying turn.

Synopsis

Tyler finds an extremely agitated Vicki in his car outside the high school parking lot, struggling to deal with her hunger. Stefan and Damon arrive just as she is about to succumb to temptation and attack Tyler, with Stefan pulling Vicki off before she can bite and Ian compelling Tyler to forget he saw any of them. In the morning, Elena tries to discourage Jeremy from skipping school to organize a search party for Vicki, but he is not dissuaded. At school, the students are decorating and preparing for Halloween. Vicki calls her brother Matt at school to reassure him that she’s okay and just needs time to figure things out. At the Salvatore residence, Stefan tells a couped up Vicki that she’s changing and shouldn’t be alone. Damon observes that the authorities must be covering up the death of Logan Fell and wonders about the mysterious vampire-locating compass, telling Stefan they should be worried. Stefan tries to alleviate Vicki’s hunger by feeding her animal blood and a three-way discussion ensues about the morals of not feeding on humans vs. the nature of vampires. Elena arrives, looking for Stefan and ends up lecturing Damon about his behavior -- an exchange Damon seems to secretly enjoy, despite his somewhat threatening words. Stefan explains to Elena that helping Vicki is going to take time because of her volatile personality and past drug use. Vicki wants to know how long Stefan plans to keep her at the house and she’s annoyed when Elena asks how she’s doing. Before school, Bonnie gets a history lesson from Grams, who stresses the importance of secrecy and explains that real witches were not actually captured during the Salem witch trials, the event that caused the family to flee and settled in Mystic Falls in 1692. At the Mystic Grill, Damon eavesdrops on Mayor Lockwood and his wife as they discuss Logan, the vampire situation, and their fear that they may be in danger. At school, Matt thanks Tyler for his words of support over Vicki, but tells him that she’s fine. Caroline whines about the lack of enthusiasm over Halloween as she shows Bonnie the witch costume they will wear and gives Bonnie the necklace she got from Damon. Back at the Salvatore’s, Stefan tutors Vicki about the body-warming properties of coffee and warns that she must fight the urge for human blood every day, confessing that while he hasn’t had blood in “years and years”, he is not proud of what he’s done in the past. After Stefan leaves to gets more blood for Vicki, she and Elena get into a fight over Jeremy, which ends with Vicki grabbing Elena in a choke-hold and threatening her life.
Stefan tells Elena that Vicki can’t see Jeremy because her body is going through huge adjustments and that emotions get blurred and translated into one thing: hunger. Back in Stefan’s room, Damon tells a bored Vicki -- who is obsessed with blood -- that he turned her out of boredom. Stefan tells Damon Vicki is not ready to go outside and could hurt someone, but Damon doesn’t listen. Outside, Vicki takes off and disappears into the woods after Damon demonstrates how fast vampires can move. Vicki finds herself unable to enter her own home until Matt invites her inside and also finds herself tempted by her brother’s blood when he gives her a huge welcoming hug. Vicki loses her temper after Matt lays into her about her disappearing act and how worried he was while she was off on her drug trip. Stefan calls on the Donovans to find Vicki, but Matt doesn’t let him in at Vicki’s request. Meanwhile, Elena tells Jeremy to let Vicki go, but Jeremy says things have only gotten better since their parents death because of Vicki. Privately, he gets a text from her to meet him at school for Halloween.
The party is in full swing at school, with Tyler offering Caroline and Bonnie some cider -- “a Lockwood special”. At the Grill, things are tense between Tyler’s parents, so Mayor Lockwood leaves first for the party. Damon learns from Mrs. Lockwood that “Uncle” Zach was a member of the Founder’s Council and also realizes she can’t be compelled, likely due to vervain in a charm bracelet she is wearing. Back at school, Elena, dressed as a nurse, arrives at the party with a sullen Jeremy and is alarmed to learn from Matt that Vicki is at the party as well. Vicki’s vampire senses are overwhelmed in the crowd of students, so she escapes into a nearby room where she finds Stefan. He tells her she shouldn’t be at the party because the crowds make it even more difficult for her to control her hunger, symptoms of which include crankiness, headaches, lightheadedness, anxiety and that will only get worse. Before escorting Mrs. Lockwood to the Halloween party, Damon offers to help with the vervain supply as he tries to learn how many townspeople are protected by the herb; the current supply left by the Mayor’s parents are nearly used up. Elena is relieved to find Stefan with an antagonistic Vicki, but Vicki takes off on everyone when Matt arrives and defends his sister against Stefan, who explains he is only trying to help. Vicki finds Jeremy and the couple disappear into the party after sharing a passionate kiss.
Damon arrives to find Bonnie wearing the amber necklace, but they are both stunned when he is singed after he unsuccessfully tries to grab it off Bonnie’s neck. Stefan and a panicked Elena try to find Vicki. Outside, Vicki tells Jeremy she needs to get out of town and asks him to join her so they can be together forever, to which he agrees. While Stefan and Elena continue their search, Vicki gets aggressive with Jeremy after biting his lips and tasting blood. Elena finds them just as Vicki is about to sink her teeth into Jeremy, but gets thrown across the parking lot when she attacks Vicki in Jeremy’s defense. Stefan arrives on scene and is forced to stake Vicki after she attacks Elena, who was trying to escape with her brother.
Elena is left with Vicki’s body after she tells Stefan -- who calls Damon for help -- to take Jeremy away. Bonnie rushes to Grams place where she learns that the amber necklace belonged to her great-great-great-great grandmother, Emily Bennett, one of the most powerful witches in their family. Elena blames Damon for what happened when he arrives to deal with Vicki’s body. A distraught Elena is forced to lie to Matt when he asks if she’s seen his sister.
Back at home, Elena tells a devastated Jeremy that Vicki tried to kill her and attempts to comfort him, while Stefan, visibly upset over what happened, somberly listens to the tears outside. Meanwhile, Matt comes home to an empty house again. Elena asks a very apologetic Stefan to help Jeremy forget what happened, but Stefan tell her he doesn’t have the power to do it permanently because he doesn’t drink human blood. When Damon arrives and offers to do it, Elena tells him she wants Jeremy to think that Vicki left town for good and that while he’ll miss her, it is for the best. She tells Stefan that a part of her wishes that she could forget meeting him and everything that’s happened since as well, but says she can’t lose the way she feels about him either. Damon comes back outside to tell them, “it’s done.”

Vicki (peers suspiciously into the cup): "What is it?"
Stefan: "It's what you're craving."
Damon: "Huh, don't lie to the girl. So not what you're craving, but it'll do in a pinch. Right, Stef?"
Vicki: "What is it?"
Damon: "Yeah, what is it? Is it skunk, St. Bernard, Bambi?"
Stefan (ignoring Damon): "Go on. Give it a try."
Damon: "She's new. She needs people-blood. She can't sustain on that stuff."
Vicki: "Yeah, why can't I have people-blood?"
Damon: "Yeah."
Stefan: "Because it's wrong to prey on innocent people, Vicki."
Damon (smiling indulgently at Vicki): "You don't have to kill to feed, just find someone really tasty and then erase their memory afterward. It's so easy."
Stefan: "No, no, no - there's no guarantee that you can control yourself, okay? It takes years to learn that. You can easily kill somebody, then you have to carry that with you for the rest of your life which, if I haven't made clear, is eternity."
Damon: "Don't listen to him. He walks on a moral plane waaaay out of our eye line. I say, 'Snatch, eat, erase.'"
Stefan (to Vicki): "Hey, look at me. We choose our own path. Our values and our actions? They define who we are."
Damon: "Oooookay, Count Deepak. I am outta here."
Elena: "How can you be so arrogant and glib after everything that you’ve done?"
Damon: "And how can you be so brave and stupid to call a vampire arrogant and glib?"
Elena: "If you wanted me dead, I'd be dead."
Damon: "Yes, you would."
Elena: "Which I'm not."
Damon: "Yet."
Stefan: "I’m working with her. It’s going to take time. She has a very volatile and impulsive personality. And she’s a drug user. And all that is going to play a part in how she responds to this."
Elena: "So she’s a vampire with issues?"
Elena: "Hi, Vicki. How are you?"
Vicki: "How am I? You're kidding, right?"
Vicki: "Does this sketchy feeling ever go away? It’s like I have a massive hangover. This daylight thing is a bitch. I need more blood. Where's your bathroom? I have to pee. Why do I have to pee? I thought I was dead."
Vicki: "And how long have you been preparing the 'you’re-not-good-enough' speech? I’m assuming it predates the whole vampire thing."
Elena: "All I’m saying is Jeremy is not getting involved in any of this. I mean it, Vicki."
Vicki: "Or what?"
Vicki (grabs Elena in a choke-hold): "Let’s get one thing straight you perky little bitch. You had my brother whipped for 15 years. 15 years. And then you dumped him. When I look at you, that is all I see. Just so you know. And I’m going to see Jeremy whenever I want to see Jeremy, because I have some fun new toys to play with and I won’t think twice about ripping your little head off. You got it?"
Vicki: "Why did you do it?"
Damon: "I was... bored."
Vicki: "You did this to me out of boredom?"
Damon: "It's one of the pitfalls of eternity."
Stefan (seeing Damon with Vicki): "What are you doing?"
Damon: "She's been cooped up in your room all day. She's not Anne Frank."
Stefan: "No, no, no, no - hey. Hey. Now's not the time for this."
Damon: "If you're gonna teach her, teach her. Show her what it's all about."
Stefan: "She could hurt someone."
Damon: "I'm not taking her to Disneyland. We're going to the front yard."
Damon (as Elena weeps over Vicki's body): "You should go. I got this."
Elena: "You did this. This is your fault."
Damon: "You confuse me for someone with remorse."
Damon (after Elena hits him): "None of this matters to me. None of it."
Elena: "People die around you. How could it not matter? It matters and you know it." (Slaps Damon)
Damon: "You need to leave. Your wounds are bleeding. And you need to leave."
Jeremy: "Why does everybody have to die on me?"
Elena: "Part of me wishes that I could forget too -- forget meeting you, finding out what you are and everything that’s happened since."
Stefan: "If that’s what you want."
Elena: "Yes. It is. Because I don’t want it to be like this. I don’t want to feel like this. But I can’t. With everything that’s happened, I can’t lose the way I feel about you."
