Synopsis
Warning: This synopsis contains detailed spoilers about the plot.
Jenna stands resolute in her decision not to invite Logan in to the house and slams the door in his face when he becomes more determined. Logan takes out his frustration on Daphne, an innocent jogger, and attacks her. Stirred by the imagery of his ancestor’s journal entries, Jeremy takes up sketching once again. Stefan listens from a distance as Sheriff Forbes fills Damon in on the presumed vampire attack and asks for his assistance. Bonnie expresses her appreciation for Stefan healing her after Damon’s assault, but angers Elena when she says that it’s probably for the best that he leave Mystic Falls. When Damon asserts his innocence regarding the recent attack, Stefan becomes alarmed and realizes that there must be another vampire in town. Stefan visits Elena at school to tell her that he is not leaving town yet because there is another vampire in Mystic Falls. Under compulsion, Caroline helps Damon locate Logan at a warehouse by using the vampire compass.
After shooting Damon numerous times with wooden bullets, Logan demands to know how it is that he can walk in sunlight, and Damon counters by asking who turned him. Angered at Damon’s refusal to reveal his secret, Logan temporarily incapacitates him with more wooden bullets and leaves the warehouse. When Stefan explains to Elena that he has to keep moving because he does not age, she replies that if he still plans to leave that he should just go. Jenna interrupts, asking Elena to hide her from Logan, and Stefan realizes that he must be the new vampire in town.
When he confronts Logan in the hallway, Stefan also denies him answers and warns him not to ever threaten him again. On the phone, Stefan informs Damon that Logan is at the school Career Night. Sheriff Forbes calls for back-up when she sees a presumed dead Logan in the school gymnasium, concluding that he is now a vampire. Mr. Saltzman comes to the aid of the mayor when he helps break up a fight brewing between Jeremy and Tyler. Caroline unwittingly accepts a ride from Logan, who smashes her head against the window, knocking her out.
Stefan leaves the school to locate Logan after Matt comments that Caroline got a ride home with him. The mayor insists that the boys, Jeremy and Tyler, should resolve their differences by fighting it out, but Mr. Saltzman intervenes. Stefan rescues Caroline from the vehicle, and Damon threatens Logan with a tire iron, demanding to know who turned him. When Logan finally admits that he knows about the tomb under the church and a way to get into it, Damon hastily agrees to meet him at the old church and allows his escape.
Stefan meets Elena back at the school to tell her that Caroline is fine and that Damon is ‘dealing’ with Logan, then hesitantly accepts her offer to give him a ride home. Under a full moon, Tyler responds aggressively when Jeremy approaches him. After Stefan tells Elena that he is leaving Mystic Falls for her, she tells him that she knows what she wants and that she loves him, breaking down his resolve. When he kisses Elena, Stefan loses control and turns away from her, but she convinces him that he does not need to fear her rejection. Together, they walk up the stairs to his room and share an intimate moment.
Alaric confronts Logan at the warehouse and stakes him quickly. When Stefan leaves his room momentarily to get a drink for Elena, she finds his photograph of Katherine and realizes that she looks exactly like her. As Damon waits at the old church, Sheriff Forbes calls to tell him that they found Logan’s body by the old Fell warehouse and that the town owes him for his help. Stefan returns to his room to see that Elena is gone and that she left her vervain necklace on top of the photograph of Katherine. Upset and crying, Elena drives down a dark road and hits a man, causing the car to tumble over. Hanging upside down, she sees the man stand back up, snap his arm back into place, and walk towards her. Elena screams in terror.

Trivia
- Last episode aired before the holiday hiatus.
- Julie Plec teased the shirtlessness quotient of this episode (a recurring fandom joke) weeks before its airing: "Let it be known that Stefan will be significantly shirtless on November 19. Significantly."[1] This came on the heels of an amusing exchange between Plec and supervising producer Marcos Siega two days before about Siega's nixing of Matt and Tyler shirtless for a scene due to "weather logic."[2] [3]
