About L.J. Smith

L.J. Smith has been writing books for Young Adults since the 1980s.

From the back of The Return: Nightfall:

L.J. Smith has written more than two dozen books for children and Young Adults. She lives in the Bay Area of California, but is happiest in a little cabin near Point Reyes National Park, which has lots of trees, lots of beaches to walk on, and lots of places to hike. The Missing Years

Due to various personal reasons (including cancer in the family and, more recently, the tragic loss of her mother), L.J. Smith disappeared from the writing world back in 1998, leaving the last book in the Night World series, Strange Fate, unfinished. Happily, she returned at the beginning of 2008 with a new website, some short stories, and Strange Fate in the works, along with a new Vampire Diaries trilogy.

Ljane Smith

As an experiment to distinguish herself from all the other L.J. Smiths out there (primarily a stairlift company and a football player on google, and many others in the world in general), Ms. Smith decided to try calling herself Ljane to see how it worked out. It didn't seem to catch on with a lot of fans, though many are now using it on the internet. She gave up on the name in her Amazon blog in August of 2008.[1]
